Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how OptiFresh ("we", "us") handles information in Freshly. This policy is written for Australia. If we offer Freshly in other regions later, we will add a section for those laws rather than replace this one.
Who we are
OptiFresh operates Freshly. Contact: support@optifreshly.com.
Information we collect
- Account details you provide at sign-up: email address, password (stored by Firebase Authentication, not in a form we can read), and display name. We also store the country region set on your phone (an ISO country code such as AU) so we know which market you signed up from. We send a verification email so we can check that the address is yours. Confirming it is optional for using the Apps today, but it helps us know the inbox is real and recover the account if you forget your password.
- You sign in to Freshly with the email and password for your account.
- Content you create — community posts ("reels"), prices, comments, follows, blocks, reports, and similar community activity.
- Grocery list items you add (capped at 100 items). The list is stored on our backend so it can follow your account, not only this device.
- Location — approximate or precise location (with your permission) to show nearby deals and stores and to tag posts. You can decline or revoke this in system settings.
- Photos you capture or pick for posts, price-tag scans, store check-in, or loose produce identification.
- Device & usage data needed to run the Apps (for example app version, basic diagnostics, and an Expo push-notification token if you allow notifications).
- Subscription status for paid plans. Purchases go through the Apple App Store or Google Play via RevenueCat. We receive entitlement and product identifiers, not your full card number.
How we use information
- To provide core features: accounts, community feed, grocery lists, store search, notifications, and membership.
- To operate AI features on our servers (see AI features).
- To keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and enforce usage limits (including the daily scan limit).
- To record that you agreed to these documents (version and time) on your account.
- To respond when you contact support.
We do not sell your personal information.
AI features
Some features use artificial intelligence on our servers through Google Cloud / Vertex AI. The Apps do not ship a consumer AI key. Depending on what you use, this may include:
- Freshly — Daily / price-tag scans: reading item names and prices from photos you take or upload.
- Freshly — Store check-in photos: checking that a photo looks like a grocery store, market, or food stall.
- Freshly — Snap loose fruit and veg (paid plans): naming produce from a photo (no barcode).
When you use these features, the Apps may send the photos or text you choose for that action to our backend, which then calls Vertex AI. AI outputs are for assistance only and may be wrong — you should review and edit results and confirm prices and availability in store.
Scan and verify images are processed to deliver the feature. We do not use them to train our own public models. Transient processing copies used only for an AI call are not kept longer than needed for that request. Related account and usage records may be kept to run limits, safety, and support.
Payments
Optional paid plans (Smart Cart and Trolly Pro) are purchased in the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat tells us which entitlements are active so we can unlock features on your account. We do not collect or store card numbers, CVV, or bank details. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat handle payment data under their own policies.
Third-party services
We use these providers to run the Apps. Their handling of data is governed by their own policies:
- Google Firebase (authentication, database, hosting).
- Google Cloud / Vertex AI (server-side AI features).
- Google Maps and Places (store search).
- Expo push notifications (reminders and alerts).
- RevenueCat (subscription status from the App Store and Google Play).
Some of these providers process data outside Australia. We use them because they are needed to operate the Apps. If we add other regions later, we will describe any extra transfer rules in an added section.
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. Community posts persist until you delete them or they expire. Grocery list items stay until you remove them or delete your account, subject to the item cap. You can delete your account at any time — see Delete Your Account.
Your choices and rights (Australia)
- Adjust camera, photo, location, and notification permissions in your device settings.
- Confirm or skip email verification from Profile if we still need to check your address.
- Delete your account and associated data in-app (Profile → Settings → Privacy → Delete account) or via the instructions on our deletion page.
- Ask us for access to, or correction of, personal information we hold, or to make a privacy complaint, by emailing support@optifreshly.com. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Children
The Apps are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes are shown by a new version number and effective date. The in-app copy and this page are meant to match.
